Generic Structural Relaxation in Supercooled Liquids

چکیده

One of the hallmarks molecular dynamics in deeply supercooled liquids is non-exponential character relaxation functions. It has been a long standing issue if 'universal' features govern lineshape glassy independent any particular structure or interaction. In paper, we elucidate this matter by giving comprehensive comparison spectral shape depolarized light scattering and dielectric data liquids. The spectra very different systems, e.g. hydrogen bonding van der Waals but also ionic almost perfectly superimpose show generic structural relaxation, approximately following high frequency power law $\omega^{-1/2}$ . However, loss peak shows more individual shape. systems with low dipole moment behavior observed spectra, while strongly dipolar additional crosscorrelation contributions mask relaxation.

Structural relaxation in supercooled orthoterphenyl.

We report molecular-dynamics simulation results performed for a model of molecular liquid orthoterphenyl in supercooled states, which we then compare with both experimental data and mode-coupling-theory (MCT) predictions, aiming at a better understanding of structural relaxation in orthoterphenyl. We pay special attention to the wave number dependence of the collective dynamics. It is shown tha...

Structural relaxation in a supercooled molecular liquid

– We perform molecular-dynamics simulations of a molecular system in supercooled states for different values of inertia parameters to provide evidence that the long-time dynamics depends only on the equilibrium structure. This observation is consistent with the prediction of the mode-coupling theory for the glass transition and with the hypothesis that the potential energylandscape controls the...

Theory of structural glasses and supercooled liquids.

We review the random first-order transition theory of the glass transition, emphasizing the experimental tests of the theory. Many distinct phenomena are quantitatively predicted or explained by the theory, both above and below the glass transition temperature T(g). These include the following: the viscosity catastrophe and heat-capacity jump at T(g), and their connection; the nonexponentiality...

Microscopic structural relaxation in a sheared supercooled colloidal liquid.

The rheology of dense amorphous materials under large shear strain is not fully understood, partly due to the difficulty of directly viewing the microscopic details of such materials. We use a colloidal suspension to simulate amorphous materials and study the shear-induced structural relaxation with fast confocal microscopy. We quantify the plastic rearrangements of the particles in several way...

Supercooled Liquids and Glasses

Glasses are materials that are much more common in our daily life than one might naively expect. Apart from the obvious (inorganic) glasses, such as wine glasses, bottles and windows, we also have the organic (often polymeric) glasses, such as most plastic materials (bags, coatings, etc.). In the last few years also metallic glasses have come to our daily (St. Andrews) life since they are used,...
